Cancel subscriptions
Delegation guide · 💰 Money · all tasks
Can Muse do it? Yes. Give it read access to your email receipts or statements and it finds every recurring charge — duplicates, forgotten trials, services you stopped using months ago — then builds a cancel list for your approval.
The prompt
Scan my email receipts and statements for every recurring subscription or membership charge. Flag duplicates, free trials that converted to paid, and anything I haven't used in 90 days. Build me a cancel list with the monthly cost of each, sorted by savings. Draft each cancellation but don't act without my approval.
Steps
- Connect email receipts. Give Muse read access to Gmail/Outlook (or upload recent statements). Read-only is enough for the audit.
- Run the prompt above. Muse returns a table: service, amount, last used, and why it's flagged.
- Review the cancel list. Strike anything you actually use — Muse can't tell the gym you "might" go back to from the one you quit.
- Approve cancellations one by one. Muse drafts each cancel; some vendors force a phone call or retention flow, which Muse will hand back to you.
Linked real case
Subscription audit — the full story: how one user found every recurring charge across statements, including duplicates and forgotten trials, and what the cancel list looked like.
Caveats
- Retention mazes are real. Some services deliberately make cancelling hard (phone-only, multi-step). Muse navigates what it can and flags the rest.
- Check annual plans. Cancelling mid-cycle may forfeit prepaid months — ask Muse to note billing cycles before you approve.
- Revoke access after. Once the audit is done, remove the email/statement connection until next time.
