Muse for Windows

Microsoft gave stage time to a rival's agent. Muse is coming to Windows 11 as a native app — with Microsoft's own sandbox built in.

What was announced

🪟 Native Windows 11 app

Pavan Davuluri, Microsoft's Windows & Devices chief, announced it on stage in San Francisco: "Muse for Windows, a personal AI agent from Meta, is coming soon as a native app on Windows." Framed as "more choice in the agents people can use on their Windows PC."

🔒 MXC sandbox built in

Microsoft Execution Containers went GA the same day. Organizations define which files and networks the agent can touch — enforced at runtime, with agent identity tracked through Agent 365 and Intune. Codex, GitHub Copilot and OpenClaw already support MXC.

⏳ What's missing

No release date. No Windows version detail. No region info — Muse is US-only (Canada since Sept 18). Meta itself hasn't announced the Windows app at all. Until it ships: muse.ai web client.

Mac vs Windows vs web

Mac (out since mid-Sept): local file access + messages, calendar, notes, mail — permission-based, personal-first. Windows (coming): native app with MXC containment — the more enterprise-controlled route, built for IT departments that want to say what the agent may touch. Web (now): muse.ai, no local access. If you work at a company with strict IT policies, the Windows version is the one your admin will allow.

5 prompts to prepare now

Use these on the web client today — they'll work even better once the native app lands.

Desktop file organizer

I have a messy Downloads folder. Sort everything from the last 60 days into folders by type (installers, PDFs, images, archives), rename the ambiguous ones, and show me the plan before moving anything.

Meeting-prep machine

Before my 2pm call tomorrow: pull the last three emails with this client, summarize the open items, and draft three questions I should ask. Have it ready by 1:30pm.

PC health check

Check my connected accounts for: software subscriptions renewing this month, cloud storage near its limit, and any bills I haven't paid. One summary, no action without my approval.

The IT-safe pitch

My IT department blocks unsandboxed AI tools. Draft a one-page case for allowing the MXC-sandboxed Muse Windows app: what MXC contains, what IT can audit, and why it's safer than browser-based agents.

Cross-platform handoff

Start a grocery list on my phone, add five items throughout the day as I think of them, and have the final list ready on my Windows machine by 6pm for the store run.

Why Microsoft invited a rival in

Two years of putting Copilot into everything — taskbar, keyboard key, Edge, Notepad — and now a Meta agent gets a keynote slot. The signal: Microsoft has decided Windows wins by being the platform where agents live, not by insisting its own agent is the only one. Same playbook as the MXC ecosystem itself: Codex, Copilot, OpenClaw already in; Claude Code, Perplexity, Raycast and Manus planning support. The OS becomes the agent referee.
