Is Meta Muse Safe?
Last updated: September 21, 2026. This is an independent summary of Meta's public claims plus the honest caveats — not legal advice.
How it's designed
- A per-user Secure VM. Your agent and its data live in a dedicated virtual machine, isolated from other users.
- Sentinel, the gatekeeper. Nothing Muse does reaches the internet unless Sentinel approves it.
- Approvals for sensitive actions. Payments, sending email, booking — these go to you for confirmation before anything happens.
- No password or payment visibility. Meta says Muse cannot see your passwords or payment methods, and VM data is not shared with Meta's ad systems.
Honest risks
- Meta's privacy track record. Meta paid a $5B FTC penalty in 2019 over privacy practices. The safety claims above are Meta's promises — worth knowing, and worth holding Meta to.
- Breadth of access. Muse asks for email, calendar, payments, health, and social accounts. That is a lot of surface area if anything goes wrong — connect apps one at a time, only as you need them.
- Training opt-out is on you. Per Meta's whitepaper (as reported September 2026), sanitized interaction trajectories may be used for model training unless you opt out. Check your privacy settings.
- Agents raise the stakes. A chatbot that says the wrong thing is embarrassing; an agent that acts in the real world can book, buy, and message. Keep approval gates on.
Practical tips
- Keep approval gates on. Never let Muse auto-approve payments or outbound messages.
- Connect apps one at a time. Start with email and calendar — add shopping, health, or social only when a use case needs them.
- Review before acting. When Muse flags something (a scam warning, a bill dispute), read it before letting it act.
- Revoke what you don't use. Remove connections in settings when a project is done.
