Muse is now in Japan — the first market outside North America.

On October 23, 2026 (Japan time), Meta officially released its Muse personal AI agent in Japan — the first expansion beyond the US and Canada. Free tier plus a paid plan, iOS / Android / web, and Japan-first connectors in the works: Mercari, Money Forward ME and Ticket Pia.

The launch, in five facts

🇯🇵 First outside North America

Muse launched in the US on September 8 and Canada around September 18. Japan is officially the first market beyond those two — Meta's own press release says so. That makes Japan the test case for how Muse travels internationally: language, payments, local services.

📱 iOS, Android, muse.ai

Same three doors as North America: dedicated mobile apps plus the muse.ai website. You message it like you'd message a person — it plans, opens browsers, fills forms, sends email and books travel on your behalf, and keeps working after you close the app.

💴 Free tier + subscription

Most basic features are free; a paid subscription exists for heavier use. Meta's announcement quotes no price, so confirm the actual plan and price inside the app before subscribing.

Japan-specific connectors are the real story

  • At launch: Gmail, Google Calendar, Instagram, Stripe, Shopify, Trip.com, Agoda and Klook — email, scheduling, shopping and travel booking.
  • In the works: Mercari (メルカリ), Money Forward ME (マネーフォワード ME) and Ticket Pia (チケットぴあ). That's resale, household finance, and event ticketing — three of the most-used consumer apps in Japan.
  • Why it matters: Meta's Japan chief Masahiro Ajisawa says the plan is to connect Muse to "the services people already use every day." The agent's value scales with its connectors, and local connectors decide whether it feels native or foreign.

What's not in Japan yet

  • Voice mode, Realtime Avatar, dedicated email address — announced at Meta Connect in September, but Japan availability "will be announced separately." (The avatar is English-only at launch anyway.)
  • Smart glasses — Zuckerberg's Q3 earnings call dated Muse-on-glasses to November 2026, with no market list. Japan is not confirmed.
  • Muse Wonder — the October 12 frontier model rollout is "subscribers first, inside the Muse app eventually." No Japan-specific timeline.

The trust layer (what Meta claims)

  • Isolated VM per user. Muse runs on a dedicated cloud VM per user ("Muse Secure VM") that holds credentials and connected-service data.
  • Sentinel. A separate agent manages internet access, independent of Muse.
  • Blind to secrets. Muse cannot see your passwords or payment methods; sending email or buying something requires your explicit confirmation first.
  • Opt-out of training. You can opt out of Meta using your conversations for AI model training; Meta says conversation data is not shared with its ad systems.
  • Honest caveat: this is Meta's stated design. The same month, researchers showed that shared Muse conversation links were discoverable from public DNS records (Meta paused sharing on Oct 20) — so treat "private" as a design claim worth testing, not a guarantee.

3 prompts to put the Japan launch to work

If you're in Japan (or shopping/traveling through it), these are the connections worth testing first.

Mercari listing agent

I sell on Mercari Japan. Connect to my Mercari account and do the following for my 5 oldest unsold listings: (1) summarize current price, views, and days listed for each; (2) propose a new price based on similar sold listings you can find; (3) draft an improved description in natural Japanese. Do NOT relist or change prices without my approval — show me everything first.

Travel planner via Klook/Agoda

I'm visiting Tokyo in November. Plan a 5-day itinerary focused on food and design: check Klook and Agoda through my connected accounts for availability and prices on day trips and passes, and flag anything that requires booking now vs. later. Present the plan with costs in yen before you book anything.

Money Forward budget review

Connect to my Money Forward ME account (read-only). Review my last 3 months of spending: categorize the top 5 spending categories, flag any recurring subscriptions I may have forgotten, and draft 3 concrete monthly budget cuts with estimated savings. Do not move or change anything.
